AYURVEDIC APPROACH FOR CAD: - There is one entity in Ayurveda called as ” Hrid - Shula ” . The word Hrid derived from the original word Hridaya which means the Heart . Shula means pain . The meaning of Hrid - Shula is thus , pain in ( & around ) heart . The condition occurs due to increased or altered Vata Dosha in the heart & nearby area . As we know , the main force of movement of anything in any body system is controlled & done by Vata dosha . The indigested Meda Dhatu ( Cholesterol , LDL ) , Pitta dosha & Kapha dosha blocks partially or totally the normal route of vata dosha . Thus the Vata dosha gets altered too , creating pain at the Heart & nearby areas. There are 5 types of each dosha . In all, each dosha accompanies the heart in some or the other way . When the dosha alters , some problem occurs as per the doshas. These problems can be defined as follows : - The Prana Vayu ( type of Vata dosha ) alteration shows exertional dyspnoea , cough , hiccups , drowsiness. The Vyana Vayu ( type of Vata dosha ) alteration shows increased heart rate & swelling at ankle joints. The Sadhak Pitta ( type of Pitta dosha ) alteration shows loss of confidence , scare , feeling of self heart beats. The Avalambak kapha ( type of Kapha dosha ) alteration shows bigger heart ( cardian dialatation). The Ojas alteration shows dizziness , coma , cyanosis. Treatment as per Ayurvedic Approach : - In the body , Hriday ( heart ) is one of the most important organ . It is called as Marma Sthana ( Vital organ ) . The most important treatment is to cut the Apachit Meda Dhatu ( LDL ) . The treatment is directed to treat the hypercholesterolaemia . The use of Gold bhasma is beneficial . The Gold bhasma provides vital strength to the myocardium ( heart muscles ) . Thereby restoring the normal functioning of the heart. The most important role of Ayurvedic medicines is in preventing or reducing atherosclerosis and thereby controlling coronary artery disease . Ayurvedic formulations like various forms of Guggulu , Chandraprabha vati and herbal combinations of various herbs like Amalaki ( Emblica officinalis ) , Arjuna ( Terminalia arjuna ) , Kutki ( Picrorrhiza kurroa ) , Punarnava ( Boerrhavia diffusa ) and Triphala are very useful in reducing blood cholesterol , fatty deposits in the blood vessels , atherosclerosis , blood pressure & excess fat deposition all over the body. The use of Panchkarma can be done strictly under supervision . The panchkarma helps to restore the body doshas & maintains the metabolism . Not all , but some therapies of panchkarma can be done very effectively in the treatment of Hrid - Shula . The Virechana ( purgation ) , Basti ( Enema ) , Hrid Basti , Whole body massage helps a lot . The most basic reason of Cholesterol is treated very effectively with these therapies. The use of Sattvavajay Chikitsa ( mental support , mental rehabilitation ) is the forefront treatment . It is very necessary to provide mental support for the affected person . The positive approach towards life & health is very important aspect . The calm mind can do this . The use of Shirodhara is the best remedy for this . It soothes the brain & refreshes the mind. Coronary heart disease is a chronic disease in which blood flow is obstructed in coronary arteries which supply oxygen rich blood to heart. End result of the accumulation of atheromatous plaque within the lumen of the arteries that supply oxygen rich blood and nutrients to myocardium. Obstruction in arteries causes ischemia to heart. Leads to Myocardial lnfarction i.e. Heart attack. Blood cholesterol plays an important role in coronary heart disease. Higher blood cholesterol and triglycerides level known as hyperlipidemia. In hyperlipidemia higher level of LDL cholesterol and Triglycerides are commonly seen. Due to this higher chances of coronary blockage. Belly fat Weight gain Hypertension Dyspnea after walking smaller distance Chest pain angina Palpatation These are common symptoms of heart disease o Shree special ayurveda diet for coronary heart disease. heart is the vital organ of the body. Allergies and Ayurved Allergies can irritate us no end. With symptoms like a runny nose, sneezing, itching to even asthma at times, allergies can make us miserable to say the least. If you have an allergy, you could be suffering from a cold, and in extreme cases, asthma and breathing difficulties might crop up. Add to that aches and pains, irregular heart beat and gastrointestinal problems, and your whole system might go for a toss. Allergies occur when an immune system that is hyper sensitive reacts to a common or unusual substance (also called allergens). In some people, allergies are hereditary but one can develop allergies at any time in his or her life. A person might be allergic to such allergens as chemical toxins, food, dust, animal hair, pollen or parasites. According to Ayurved, ama (undigested toxins) and low immunity are the main cause of allergies. Ama can settle at the digestive level or in various tissues with different symptoms at each level. When improperly digested ama is carried through channels into the various tissues in the body, the resulting toxin accumulation imbalances the tissues. Ama toxicity aggravates Pitta or Kapha, and in each case, the symptoms may vary. In fact, you may be a Kapha, Pitta or Vata person, but an allergy when it occurs in any constitution, can throw up various symptoms. A Pitta based allergy, for instance, manifests itself through sore red eyes and an inflamed itchy nose. There could be low fever and the person might feel extremely irritable. Exposure to sunlight will set off sneezing attacks. A Kapha allergy, on the other hand, may induce a dull heavy feeling in the head, stuffy nose and sinuses, lethargy and drowsiness, swollen eyes and lots of mucous production. Damp related allergens like moulds can set off this type of allergy and even cause asthma in susceptible victims. A Vata allergy attack may be caused due to dry dust in which case the throat may run dry and become hoarse. There would be a feeling of excessive dryness and pain in the nose and sinuses too. Asthma characterized by spasms may result in extreme cases. Home remedies for Pitta Allergy Take half a teaspoon of amlaki, steep in boiling water and then strain the liquid before drinking it. Amlaki is a virechan (laxative) herb and helps remove Pitta Dosha during the allergy season. Breathing coconut oil deeply in each nostril a couple of times a day, drinking neem leaf tea three or four times a day and drinking warm milk (a quarter cup) with half a teaspoon of turmeric will also prove beneficial. It is important to follow a Pitta soothing anti-inflammatory diet by avoiding fried food, processed and spicy food, chillies, onions, garlic, red meat, egg yolks, caffeine and alcohol. Home remedies for Kapha Allergy This type of allergy needs Agastiprash which has to be taken twice daily to strengthen the lungs. Triphala will also help in detoxifying the system. The person suffering from this type of allergy needs to take half a teaspoon of triphala steeped ten minutes in boiling water. The liquid has to be strained before drinking it. Kapha-causing foods specially wheat and dairy products is best avoided during such allergies. Home remedies for Vata allergy For Vata-caused allergies, seasame oil (Til Taila) is highly beneficial. A teaspoon of Ashwagandha taken with a cup of warm milk during bedtime will also balance Vata. Those with Vata causing allergies can use nasya oil (sesame oil) for dry, painful nasal passages while liquorice (mulethi) tea will relieve a dry, raspy throat. Alternatively, they can drink three or four cups of ginger root tea per day for immediate relief. Treatment for Allergies In Ayurved, allergies can be treated through shodhan (cleansing) treatment in the form of nasya where the drop of medicated oil is instilled in the nostrils. Take the case of Nikhil (name changed), a 32 year old executive from Ujjain who was suffering from severe nasal allergy. As an executive working in a multi national company, he was initially taking allopathic medicines, before he decided to take recourse to Ayurved. While suffering from nasal congestion, he was administered Ayurvedic nasya oil made up of Jivanti, devadaru, usira, sariva, sveta canadana, daru haridra, yasti, satavari, rasna, Kantakari to help relieve sinus inflammation. Such oils can be applied twice a day by hanging the head over the edge of the bed and squeezing 3-5 drops of the oil in each nostril. While lying there, Nikhil’s nose and cheeks were massaged in a motion towards his forehead. This helped to lubricate the mucus membrane while allowing the oil to drain up in his sinus cavity. If Nasya therapy is carried out effectively, Kapha related toxins from the paranasal sinuses are eliminated. Due to this, the patient feels great relief in the head and experiences clarity of the sense organs. Breathing becomes completely unobstructed which gives sound sleep at night. There is improvement in the olfactory area too. For Nikhil, too, nasya helped him to breathe effortlessly after a long time and his condition has changed for the better. Besides nasya, allergies can also be effectively treated through shaman (pacification) treatment in the form of medicines where Kapha pacifying herbs are used. In shaman treatment, the herbs that are usually given to pacify Kapha include mulethi, vasa, pushkar mul and kantakari. Powders like Palishadi Churna and Sitopladi Churna and tablets like Lakshmivilas Ras and Vyoshadi Guggulu are found to be a surefire way of pacifying Kapha. Be it through nasya, churna or tablets, Ayurved has a cure for allergies of every hue. The point is to diligently stick to the treatment plan, allergies would cease to be a bother altogether.
The three stages of Panchakarma therapy. Panchakarma is always performed in three stages Purva Karma (pre-treatment), Pradhana Karma (primary treatment) and Paschat Karma (post-treatment). The patient who opts for any one of the five therapies has invariably to undergo all the three stages. Snehana (oleation / oil therapy) and Swedana (sudation) are the two Purva Karma procedures. Snehana (internal and external oleation) loosens the Amam stuck in various sites of the body and Swedana dilates the channels to facilitate its movement towards the Koshta (alimentary canal). The Amam that reaches the Koshta is eliminated during the Pradhana Karma (primary treatment). Diet regimens, restricted bodily exertion, and the intake of health-promoting drugs come under the Paschat Karma (post-treatment). Panchakarma is a purifying therapy to enhance the metabolic process through food and herbal medicines. It is used in deep rooted chronic disease as well as seasonal imbalance of tridoshas. As the wastes are eliminated from the body the person becomes healthy Literally Panch means five and Karma means action. So Panchakarma means five types of actions or techniques or treatment. Nasya Nasal administration of medication Nasya is administered through the nose. Medicated powders, decoctions or oil drops are introduced into the nasal passages. They remove residual doshas and toxins from the head and neck area. Nasya is used in cases of migraine, chronic rhinitis, epilepsy etc. Rakta Mokshana Blood letting Rakta Mokshana is done either with the help of venesection, or using leeches. It is mainly used to cure gout, skin and blood disorders (pigmentation), elephantiasis, alopecia. Panchakarma is the ultimate mind-body healing experience for detoxifying the body, strengthening the immune system, and restoring balance and well-being. It is one the most effective healing modality in Ayurvedic Medicine. It promotes Detoxification and Rejuvenation. It is recommended on a seasonal basis, as well as when an individual feels out of balance or is experiencing illness. panchkPanchaKarma – Rejuvenating Detox Panchakarma is a Sanskrit word that means “five actions” or “five treatments”. This is a process used to clean the body of toxic materials left by disease and poor nutrition. Normally the body has the innate ability to efficiently process and remove these waste materials, including the vitiated doshas. However due to one’s repeated dietary indiscretions, poor exercise patterns, lifestyle, and genetic predisposition the digestive enzymes, metabolic co-factors, hormones, and agnis which regulate the body’s internal homeostasis become disorganized. This can lead to the accumulation and spread of toxins throughout the physiology resulting in disease. This waste matter is called ama in Ayurveda. Ama is a foul-smelling, sticky, harmful substance that needs to be completely evacuated from the body. Panchakarma will remove the excess doshas and correct imbalances in them as well as eliminate the harmful ama out of your system through the body’s own organs and channels of elimination (colon, sweat glands, lungs, bladder, urinary tract, stomach, intestines, etc). Panchakarma purifies the tissues at a very deep level. It involves daily massages and oil baths, herbal enemas, nasal administrations. It is a very pleasurable experience. Ayurveda recommends Panchakarma as a seasonal treatment for maintaining mental and physical hygiene and balance. Panchakarma is a five-fold therapy; it is highly individualized based on the needs of the individual depending on the Ayurvedic constitutional type, doshic imbalances, age, digestive strength, immune status, and many other factors. Depending on each individual’s needs all or only parts of the five therapies are utilized. Specially trained therapists must administer these procedures in a definite sequence for a specified period of time. In addition, although Panchakarma is for the most part a delightful and comfortable therapy, there can be periods of discomfort associated with the profound release of toxins, which does occur. It is therefore essential that a knowledgeable expert who can recognize the signs of properly and improperly administered Panchakarma supervise the therapy. Fortunately these signs were meticulously recorded by the ancient vaidyas. Like all medical procedures, Panchakarma Therapy always must begin with an initial consultation by a qualified Ayurvedic Physician who can determine the individual’s prakriti (constitutional type), the nature of the health problem (if any), and the appropriate degree of intensity of the prescribed therapies. Panchakarma treatments have been shown to create measurable brain wave coherence and to lower metabolic activity. They allow the body and mind to drop into a profound level of peacefulness. In this state of relaxation, it is possible to cleanse toxins from tissues as well as to release deeply held emotional tensions.
Abhyanga is an ancient Indian Ayurvedic oil massage therapy for healing and detoxifying Body, Mind and Spirit. This ayurvedic detox and stress reduction therapy is performed by herbal oils. It incorporates an aromatic combination of oils prepared with herbs warmed and blended to your Dosha type.
